Caminito del Rey Group Excursion

Caminito del Rey

The Reopening

The notorious Caminito del Rey pathway, once known as one of the world’s most dangerous hiking routes was closed to the public in the year 2000. Fifteen years later, this spectacular route through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Park reopened to much delight and immediate success.

Installed into the sheer rock-face of the Gaitanes Gorges, 100 dizzying metres above the Guadalhorce River the new, wooden pathway, faithfully follows the original iron and cement pathway, constructed between 1901 and 1906.

No longer accessible only to climbers and thrill seekers, today’s trail offers visitors an easy walk through the dramatic landscapes and breath-taking views with every step. The natural beauty of the area combined with the construction of the Caminito and the railway line snaking across the opposite side of the valley make this a unique and unforgettable experience which can be enjoyed by all people of all ages and fitness levels.

Caminito del Rey

The Walk

The walk normally takes around two hours, although our guide will always walk at the group pace and you can stop to rest, take pictures or simply marvel as much as you like and there is no time limit.

The easy walk itself is around 7.75 km and is mainly flat for its duration. There is approx. 3 km spent walking on the wooden walkways with the remainder spent walking through the valley in the middle separating the gorges or on the approach paths to the start and exit points.

Small Group Tour

Once labeled as the “World’s Most Dangerous Walkway” the Caminito del Rey has become somewhat gentler after its restoration but it still remains an unforgettable walk in beautiful mountain scenery and offers visitors stunning and dramatic views guaranteed to take your breath away.

The nearby reservoirs provide a cooling and relaxing a spot after the walk in their beautiful blue waters (should the weather permit!). Whilst the nearby restaurant “El Kisoko” makes a great spot with its views of the lakes to enjoy some local tapas before the trip home.
