The Perfect Shore Excursion from Málaga Port

Caminito del Rey Shore Excursion

Caminito del Rey

The Re-opening

The world famous Caminito del Rey, once known as one of the world’s most dangerous pathways was closed to the public in the year 2000. Fifteen years later, this unique route through the spectacular mountain scenery reopened to much acclaim and immediate popularity.

Clinging onto the sheer face of the Gaitanes Gorges, 100 metres above the Guadalhorce River below the modern, wooden walkway, follows above the original iron and cement pathway that was originally constructed between 1901 and 1906.

No longer only the domain of climbers and action seekers, today’s walk offers hikers a pleasant walk through dramatic landscapes and breath taking views with each step. The unspoiled natural beauty of the landscape, the impressive construction of the Caminito and the railway line on the opposite side of the valley make the Caminito a unique experience which can be enjoyed by all people of all ages and fitness levels.

Walking the Caminito

The walk takes on average around two hours, although our guide will always walk at your pace and you can stop to rest, take pictures or simply marvel as much as you like, there is plenty of time to get back to the cruise ship!

The walk itself is around 8 km and is flat for almost all its duration. There is approx. 3 km spent on the wooden walkways with the remainder spent walking in the valley separating the gorges and on the approach paths to the access and exit points.
