Castellar Zoo

A much over looked spot on the Costa del Sol, Castellar Zoo is in fact an animal rescue center which homes and cares for all sorts of animals that have been seized and rescued by the authorities.

Originally starting as a private sanctuary back in 1998 and opened to the public in 2002, the place has blossomed purely based on word of mouth. Often on your walks you’ll encounter a baby leopard or tiger in needs of some stroking as well as the sleepy Honey Bear!

Located on the edge of the Los Alcornocales natural park and surrounded by dense cork oak forests, Castellar Zoo is situated in a beautiful natural environment. This, combined with a wide variety of animals, amazing levels of interaction and friendly and helpful staff, make an excursions to the Zoo de Castellar an unforgettable experience and part of a great day out from the Costa del Sol.

Castellar de La Frontera

Situated in Los Alcornocales Natural Park and perched imposingly atop a rocky promontory, Castellar de la Frontera commands impressive views over the Bay and Rock of Gibraltar as well as over to the Sierra Bermeja and north to the Serrania de Ronda. A hidden gem on the Costa del Sol, this abandoned medieval village inside a 12th century fortress is a breathtaking place to visit.

Its beautiful, narrow whitewashed streets are filled with plants and flowers and are a pleasure to follow and discover the hidden galleries and shops in this astonishingly pretty village.

The castle provides an imposing and protective backdrop and upon entering you’ll be amazed by the 360º panoramic views offered of the beautifully green Los Alcornocales Natural Park.

Casares

High up above Estepona, in the Sierra Bermeja, Casares is a picture postcard village (apparently the most photographed village in Spain) clinging to the mountainside beneath a Moorish castle, the view from the approach into the town is stunning.

Designated a Historic-Artistic Site in 1978 it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Málaga. Our short walking tour around the village, through its narrow and windy streets leads us to the fortress at the top of the village. The views over the village and the surrounding countryside are unsurprisingly spectacular and well worth the climb!

Casares is also the birthplace of the father of Andalusian nationalism, Blas Infante, more of whom can be seen in our Ronda tour.
