Discover the Best of Ronda with our Guided Tour

Ronda, rising on its rocky escarpment from the surrounding plains is a city that has enchanted visitors for centuries and still enchants everyone that visits today.

Ronda’s ancient streets, have borne witness to Romans, Arabs, Catholics as well as centuries of trade and conflict. As you’ll discover on our visit to the Caves later in the tour, the area has in fact been inhabited for millennia rather than centuries and is an important link back to our past.

It’s Ronda’s blend of history, it’s breath-taking views from the edge of the Puente Nuevo or the edge of the escarpment, the peaks of three national parks which frame every view of Ronda, it’s narrow, cobbled and whitewashed streets with iron bars on the windows, quiet plazas filled with trees and fountains, palaces and convents, a world famous bullring, delicious tapas and that something undefinable in its light and its air which has attracted tourists, painters, poets and writers to Ronda for centuries.

Ronda’s rare combination of natural beauty and ancient history make it one of our most popular tours and whether you prefer to soak up its charm and atmosphere or explore it’s fascinating past you’ll leave Ronda with outstanding photos, unique memories and an urge to come back!

Cueva del Gato – The Cat´s Cave

The Cueva del Gato, hidden alongside the Rio Guadiaro, and for long a haunt of highway bandits or “bandoleros” is the exit of an 8km long underground river. From it’s gaping mouth (supposedly shaped like a cats’ mouth – but you’ll need your imagination), the Rio Guadares forms a waterfall and below a large, turquoise blue / green pool which makes a perfect spot for a cooling swim after Ronda. Be warned however, the crystal clear water is also freezing cold!

Cueva de La Pileta – The Cave of the Pool

Our final stop on the tour and for many the highlight, is a visit to the Cueva de La Pileta. Discovered in 1905 by a nearby farm searching for guano to use as fertiliser for his Olive trees, the extensive and fascinating paintings range from 5000 to over 30,000 years old.

The guided tour, which lasts around an hour expertly explains many of the most impressive and ancient the paintings as well as the beautiful rock formations. The darkness of the cave and the proximity to our ancestors creates a unique experience and emerging from the cave into the warm Andalucían sun you’ll be left with an incredible impression of a special place.

No neon lights, no souvenir shop, the lack of commercialism and the closeness of the tour to the paintings and galleries make an excursion to the Cueva de La Pileta one of the highlights of the Ronda area and Marbella Escapes tours.
