Mijas ‘pueblo’ is one of the most famous traditional “white” villages in Spain. Only 30 minutes from Malaga airport, though it confidently combines a mix of a typical white village feel alongside touches of modern sensibilities, such as with opening of the New CAC Mijas Art Museum.
Our final stop on the tour, where we leave you time to shop and explore Mijas – “A Village to Experience”. A walk along the fortress walls and its beautiful gardens, which have been designed to have flowers all year round, offers some of the most spectacular views of the coast and are a wonderfully peaceful end to a tour that includes the Buddhist Stupa and the Butterfly Museum.
Mijas is also home to the famous donkey taxis, with over 60 operating at the moment and one of the main attractions in Mijas. Another unique attraction to visit in Mijas is the Miniature Museum or “Carramoto de Mijas”, opened in 1972 by Juan Elegido Millán to exhibit his collection of miniature art from around the world and containing over 360 pieces, ranging from shrunken heads to a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on a pinhead.
Mijas pretty streets are a shopper’s paradise with a wide collection of shops, ranging from Mayan Monkey (the world’s smallest chocolate factory!), plenty of handmade ceramics, and other arts and crafts such as jewellery and an abundance of leather shops.
